Have you ever seen or heard of a greenfield project? If you haven’t, all you need to do is have a look to the new Osflo facilities on Mountain Road, Inglewood to get an idea what they are all about.
The site we selected for our new Osflo bulk storage and handling facilities had no existing buildings or infrastructure, a true greenfield site as the saying goes, so we had the opportunity to design and purpose build a unique structure focused around passive airflow as well as safe and efficient truck and traffic flow, right from scratch.
The design we ultimately settled on means that there is no more fighting with the elements, we have ample room for all our products, and neither incoming nor outgoing trucks need to queue or reverse. As our dispatch manager Steve says, “you can now fit in a 9-axle truck and trailer unit a piece of cake!”
As we come to the 1-year anniversary of the commissioning of the new site, we are really seeing the many benefits of our big move. The overall site position has proven to be ideal, being centrally located for our customer base, as well as convenient for our truckers as we are situated on the main highway network. Also, given we are now smack-bang in the middle of an operational farm support unit, the outlook, sense of space, native plantings and natural light all positively contribute to staff well-being and neighbourly relations.
The operational farm is leased and managed by the Taranaki Community Rugby Trust, which raises money for skills programmes and equipment to make it easier for young people to get involved in Taranaki’s grassroots rugby community. Osflo’s partnership with the TCRT has been in place for almost a decade and we are proud to be able to provide support them in the way of land and fertiliser inputs across their dairy operations, with the new site offering us yet another way to give back to the local community.
The design of the site allows us to prepare our range of seasonal mixes in a fully weather tight environment, and thanks to the efficient layout and flow of the facility, we can get products out to farm quicker than ever before. Our team are currently busy preparing Osflo Autumn seasonal mixes with added selenium to boost pasture growth in preparation for spring, with the added selenium to optimise animal health.
